Privacy policy

Effective date: 1 June 2026. Last updated: 12 June 2026.

opcionrural.com ("we", "us", "our") publishes smartphone guides for older adults at https://opcionrural.com/. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights under the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA).

1. Who is the data controller

The data controller responsible for the personal data described in this policy is:

opcionrural.com Editorial
1820 Folsom Street, Suite 240
Boulder, CO 80302, United States
Email: privacy@opcionrural.com

2. What information we collect

We collect three categories of information:

3. Why we use this information (legal bases)

Under GDPR and UK GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases:

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We classify cookies into three tiers and request your consent before setting anything beyond the strictly-necessary tier. The full table of named cookies and their purposes is on our cookie policy page. In summary:

5. Advertising — Google AdSense and DoubleClick

opcionrural.com uses Google AdSense to display advertising. Google is a third-party vendor and uses cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads to our visitors. The cookies set by Google AdSense and DoubleClick include:

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our visitors based on visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or the industry opt-out pages at aboutads.info (US) and youronlinechoices.eu (EU/UK).

For European, UK, and California visitors, opcionrural.com requests explicit opt-in consent before any advertising or non-essential cookies are set. We currently capture this consent through an on-site banner that records your choice locally on your device. If you decline advertising cookies, Google AdSense will be instructed to serve only non-personalised ads, which rely on the page content rather than your browsing history. We are evaluating moving to an IAB-registered Consent Management Platform (such as Google's Funding Choices) for fuller TCF v2.3 signalling as the site grows; this policy will be updated when that transition is complete.

Google's Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal is honoured: if your browser sends a GPC header, we treat that as an opt-out of the sale and sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.

6. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share limited categories of data with the following processors, each under a written data-processing agreement:

We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our visitors and team.

7. International transfers

Our servers are operated in the United States. When personal data is transferred from the European Economic Area or United Kingdom to the United States, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission and supplementary safeguards as described by the European Data Protection Board's recommendations.

8. How long we keep data

9. Your rights

Under GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA/CPRA you have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@opcionrural.com. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — for EU residents, your national data-protection authority; for UK residents, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); for California residents, the California Privacy Protection Agency.

10. Children

This website is written for an adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16 years of age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact privacy@opcionrural.com and we will delete it.

11. Security

We use HTTPS site-wide, restrict administrative access to a small number of named team members, and keep our software dependencies up to date. No internet transmission can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, but we take reasonable, proportionate steps to protect the limited personal data we hold.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our practices change or when new laws apply. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced on the homepage for at least 30 days.

13. Contact
